Our New Look

You will notice that we've made some big changes at The Atlanta Beacon. For one, we've moved all of our interactive features (discussion, community calendar, etc.) to Facebook. We did this for several reasons:

  • It virtually eliminates the time I have to spend on site maintenance, leaving me free to do everything else that is required to run The Atlanta Beacon effectively.
  • Most of our readers are already Facebook users. And if you're not, you should really try it out. Not only is it a great way to interact with The Atlanta Beacon, it's a great way to interact with friends and family.
  • It off-loads much of the work that my servers were having to do to their servers, saving me money and allowing me to reduce my ad rates.

Getting Started

If you're already a Facebook user, just click on the "Become a Fan" button on the The Atlanta Beacon box to the right. You should also become a fan of Your Hometown Rag (or parent publications) below. While The Atlanta Beacon focuses on local events and issues in and around Atlanta & McLean, Your Hometown Rag puts a local perspective on state, national, and world events.

If you're not a Facebook user, create a Facebook account. It's easy and free. Then become a fan of The Atlanta Beacon and Your Hometown Rag. Then you can start commenting on posts, creating your own posts, adding events, and everything else...far easier and faster than you could before!

Last but not least, invite your friends and family to become fans of The Atlanta Beacon and Your Hometown Rag on Facebook.
